Nursing Home Rates Stay Steady in 2008

According to a just-released Survey of Nursing Home & Assisted Living Costs by MetLife, average private nursing home room rates remained unchanged nationally from 2007. Semi-private nursing home room rates, increased 1.1% to $69,715/yr, while the average Assisted living rates increased by 2.1% to $36,372/year.

At a state level, Nursing home rates were cheapest in Louisiana ($132/day), Kansas ($147/day), Missouri ($147/day) and Minnesota ($149/day), and most expensive in Alaska ($577/day), Connecticut ($362/day), New York ($314/day) and Hawaii ($306/day).

Assisted living costs ranged from $1,980/month to $4,645/month nationally, with the lowest costs on a state level in North Dakota ($1,980/mo.), Arkansas ($2,289/mo.), Louisiana ($2,318/mo.) and South Dakota ($2,351/mo), and the most expensive rates in Alaska ($4,645/mo.), Maine ($4,571/mo.), Washington ($4,414/mo.) and Vermont ($4,375).
